Here's a video showing how I downloaded the software installers:

In addition, you will need to have Microsoft Office 2003 or later. In particular, MS Excel is needed for certain functions of Autodesk Inventor.
Your computer should have had all of the latest Microsoft updates installed, as well as an up-to-date antivirus program.
Your computer should probably have the following utilities as well:

These utilities support different functions of the main software, or are needed to view documents or certain media files.

I have found it very helpful to install the free CutePDF Writer. This program installs itself as a printer on your computer, letting you "print" any document as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. Using this, you can keep convenient PDF copies of your designs and other output as computer files. You can also print to a PDF file for later printing to paper. Nice way to make up an "electronic portfolio" of your work, instead of smearing pigments onto the dried fibers of crushed plants.

Note: You will probably have to first install Ghostscript before installing CutePDF Writer. They provide a link to this software as well.

(I will add more information here, as I find it.)
