Expanding Minority Participation in STEM
 Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation:
America's Science and Technology Talent at the Crossroads
Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation explores the role of diversity in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce and its value in keeping America innovative and competitive. According to the book, the U.S. labor market is projected to grow faster in science and engineering than in any other sector in the coming years, making minority participation in STEM education at all levels a national priority.
This book can be purchased in paperback for $40, or read online for free. There is also a free PDF version available for download from their site. Click the book cover image to see the book.
The National Academies Press is the publication arm of the National Academies. According to the National Academies' website:
To meet the government's urgent need for an independent adviser on
scientific matters, President Lincoln signed a congressional charter
forming the National Academy of Sciences in 1863 to "investigate,
examine, experiment, and report upon any subject of science." As science
began to play an ever-increasing role in national priorities and public
life, the National Academy of Sciences eventually expanded to include
the National Research Council in 1916, the National Academy of
Engineering in 1964, and the Institute of Medicine in 1970.
The National Academies have served the country in an expert advisory role since their inception, and in June of this year have made thousands of their publications available for free download in PDF format. These publications are objective and authoritative works, and represent an invaluable source of information from Agriculture to Transportation.
